Influences of marine geological conditions on construction of suction anchor mooring systems for floating offshore wind power

    • With the depletion of exploitable wind energy resources in nearshore shallow waters and the intensification of conflicts over sea use, offshore wind power is gradually expanding to deep and distant sea areas, and floating offshore wind power has become a core approach for tapping deep-sea wind energy. As the key underwater anchoring hub of floating wind platforms, the construction quality of mooring systems considering geological conditions directly affects the long-term service stability of wind turbine units. Featuring strong geological adaptability, reliable anchoring performance and controllable costs, suction anchor mooring systems have emerged as the preferred solution for deep-water applications. This paper comprehensively reviews the research status of suction anchor mooring systems and systematically analyzes their construction procedures based on practical engineering experience. Focusing on key technical challenges including seabed geological adaptability, marine environmental disturbances, seabed sand wave evolution and wave scouring, sealing performance, anchoring force detection, and full-process quality control, this study discusses targeted countermeasures and integrated construction technical systems. Technical measures such as high-precision geological investigation, coordination of special equipment, modular prefabrication, as well as the combination of in-situ detection and numerical simulation can effectively break through the construction bottlenecks of suction anchor mooring systems, improve construction quality and efficiency, and reduce operation costs. The research findings can provide practical references for the anchoring construction of floating wind power projects in deep and distant seas, and offer data support for the technical upgrading of suction anchor mooring technology and the formulation of industrial specifications. This work facilitates the high-quality development of the offshore wind power industry towards deep and distant seas, and contributes to the energy structure transition and the achievement of the dual carbon goals.
